How to Display Pictures

During the first months of college life, students begin to miss their homes, family, and friends. Many residents bring pictures to remind them of their loved ones, and like to display these around their rooms as a comfort, as well as an opportunity for their new friends to learn more about them. There are many different ways to display pics around your residence hall room, and hopefully this will give a few creative ideas to spice up your room and make it feel more comfortable.

Of course you can display pictures in frames to set on desks, book shelves, or dressers; however, finding ways to incorporate them into your wall decor can add life to your room. One suggestion is to string twine across a wall and hang pictures using clothespins. You can choose various colors of twine and clothespins to make it match your personality and color scheme of your room. Feel free to jazz it up by adding bows, ribbons, or anything relating to an extracurricular. For example, if you enjoy rock climbing, use climbing rope and carabiners instead to match your hobby. Get as creative as you would like!

If you do not want to hang the twine from the wall, or you cannot do so due to building policy, try using a picture frame instead. Remove the glass and hang twine/string across the frame which can then be hung on your wall. Attach the pictures in the same fashion using clothespins.

Another way to add decor using pictures, is to use magnet, cork, or bulletin boards. These are easy to hang on the wall and provide an quick way to update your photos as you make new memories in college. They also allow you to show off your style by personalizing them with fun colors, patterns, magnets, push pins, etc. Add your personality by covering them with wrapping paper, ribbon, scrapbook paper, or beads.

Finally, an interesting way to display a photo collage along with other small items is to use a bike wheel. Paint the wheel to match your room and use the spokes to create a collage of your life. You can then hang the wheel on a wall or set it on a shelf or desk.

Hopefully this inspired you to start thinking about fun ways to decorate your room when you arrive in August. Keep checking back for more tips and suggestions on how to decorate, save space, and what to bring. Although pictures are a staple, there are plenty of creative ways to help you create your home away from home.
